News: 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia Grand Am

Ferrari and their out-of-house tuning firm, Michelotto, have wrapped up their initial development for the new Ferrari 458 Italia Grand Am and have begun testing the vehicle on the Fiorano Circuit. If the name for this new racer doesn’t give it away, the 458 Italia Grand Am was produced as the first factory-sanctioned Ferrari to compete in the Grand-Am’s Rolex Sports Car Series GT class under the current GT rules.

The Ferrari 458 Italia Grand Am is based on the GT3 version of the V8-powered Ferrari Berlinetta. The difference between the new 458 Grand Am model and the European version is that the Grand Am develops a total of 500 HP (and not 470 HP like other 458 Italia racing cars) at maximum revs of 8000. Slowing the North American Grand Am down is a 48 mm restrictor and less efficient aerodynamics than the GT version. Compared to a standard 458 Italia, the Grand Am model features a revised braking system (since the car is lacking ABS and traction control) and a roll-over bar which gives greater lateral protection thereby increasing safety. The car is fitted with tires from the Grand Am series’ sole provider, Continental.

News: Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale by Novitec Tridente

Novitec Tridente has dropped the suspension, mounted 22-inch alloys with a thin coating of Pirelli P Zero rubber, and – most crucially – superchaged and intercooled the engine (along with remapped management) up to 646 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, fed by a big air scoop in the hood. That drops the 0-62 time to 3.9 seconds, and increases the top speed to an autostrada-crunching 190 miles per hour. Extensive interior accoutrements can also be added to the package that starts at €23,900 ($32k)

News: Ferraris, Mercedes Benzes and Lamborghini crash in Yamaguchi, Japan

TOKYO (majirox news) — Fourteen cars crashed at 10:15 a.m. on Dec. 4 in Shimonseki, Yamaguchi prefecture, on the Chugoku Expressway.
Eight Ferraris, three Mercedes-Benzes and one Lamborghini were involved in the accident.
Ten people were taken to the hospital and suffered only minor bruises, according to police.
In the first hours after the crash, there was a lot of confusion as to what happened. No details were given; the expressway police are investigating the incident.
However, a 36-year-old man claimed the cars were making loud noises as they passed him by.
Whenever someone wrecks a car, it’s always a sorry situation. What’s even worse is when someone wrecks an exotic car. That’s when the repair costs tend to leave a serious dent in the wallet.

Update: A 60-year-old Ferrari driver, who was leading the group, caused the accident when he lost control on the wet road and hit the center divider, causing a chain reaction that wrecked the 14 vehicles, including seven other Ferraris, three Mercedes-Benzes and a Lamborghini. An oncoming Mercedes-Benz was hit by the debris. The two other cars were Toyotas.
The drivers of the exotic cars were from Kyushu and headed to Hiroshima.

News: Jaguar XKRS convertible

New convertible from jaguar with 5.0 liter supercharged engine generate about 550hp and 6800 torque. The car has 6 speed automatic transmission. With a total weight of 2185 kg the car can go from 0-60km/h in 4.5sec.

Here is some special feature from jaguar website

Jaguar Drive Selector
The XKR-S’ six-speed automatic transmission is controlled by the JaguarDrive Selector™, a beautifully designed cylindrical control that rises into the driver’s hand once the ‘Start’ button is pressed. The driver simply turns the selector to choose Drive or Sport automatic gearshift mode. For maximum driver involvement, gear changes can also be controlled manually with the one-touch paddles behind the steering wheel.

Jaguar Drive Control
JaguarDrive Control™ provides a choice of modes to suit road conditions and driving style. Winter mode offers a dampened accelerator response for more progressive control in slippery conditions, with bespoke shift settings that delay and soften gear changes. Dynamic mode interacts with the management electronics to give a more responsive accelerator reaction, quicker gearshifts and a more sporting drive.

Active Front Lightning
The Active Front Lighting system features dynamic pivoting headlamps and cornering lamps that react to the car’s speed and steering input. The system can deflect the headlight beams by up to 15°, to cast light deeper into corners.

Toch Screen and screen navigator
The 7" Touch-screen controls most major functions and keeps the number of conventional switches to a minimum. A masterpiece of clarity and intuitive functionality, it is used to operate the in-car audio system, Bluetooth® telephone system, satellite navigation and climate control.

The Portable Audio Interface provides full-function control of an iPod® or other MP3 player via the Touch-screen. USB mass-storage devices can also be accessed through the Touch-screen and other players can be connected to the car through the standard-fit 3.5mm stereo auxiliary input port.

Bowers and Wilkins sound system
The XKR-S is fitted with a Bowers & Wilkins 525W sound system featuring Dolby® Pro-Logic II Surround Sound for extraordinary sound quality throughout the cabin. Designed and tuned for the XK range by Bowers & Wilkins, it offers exceptionally clear reproduction, enhanced by Kevlar® cones in the larger speakers and aluminium domes on the tweeters.

Reverse park camera
The Reverse Park Camera is discreetly hidden in the XKR-S’ boot lid finisher. It sends pictures from behind the car to the 7" Touch-screen, with parking guidance for the driver.

News: 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder

Automobili Lamborghini is expanding the most successful model line ever built under the sign of the bull with a very special car – the new Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder combines the open spyder body style with purist rear Wheel Drive. This version brings together that stunning level of open-air driving fun that can come only from a super sports car with a folding roof and an unbelievably agile and spontaneous handling.

"With the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder, we are expanding the Lamborghini lineup with a purist model that adds yet another dimension of driving fun. This will appeal in particular to a very special group of customers that enjoy a spirited driving style and also like to experience the sheer pleasure of open-air driving," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "This special model with rear-wheel drive is a logical expansion of our lineup of spyder models with all-wheel drive."

The most important technical characteristics of the Lamborghini LP 550-2 Spyder are already recognizable from the model designation – LP stands for Longitudinale/Posteriore, for the mid-engine built longitudinally in front of the rear axle. 550 refers to the power output in hp, and the 2 stands for the drive to the rear wheels. At Lamborghini, the word spyder means the ultimate synthesis of a fascinating, powerfully expressive super sports car design, the ultimate open-air thrill and sheer pleasure for all the senses.

A driving experience of the highest precision

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder with rear-wheel drive is the perfect fit for the kind of sports car driver that enjoys a particularly hands-on and spirited style of driving. The setup is laid out to ensure that the rear end remains reliable and stable at all times, while the front axle steers with the highest level of precision and limits movement to an absolute minimum.

Thanks to the supremely powerful V10 engine, controlled oversteer is not a problem, although always and only to the extent prescribed by the driver. Its easy-to-control road manners and the ESP assistant system developed for these vehicles make the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder an outstandingly safe sports car to drive.

Further developed chassis, drive system and engine

In order to shape this unique character of driving fun and safety, the engineers in Sant'Agata Bolognese carried out extensive modifications to the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder, developing it specifically for these new characteristics. Not only was drive concentrated on the rear axle, the vehicle was also completely retuned in all its dynamic details. This Includes a specific dampers setting. The aerodynamics were also adapted to account for the change in the distribution of forces.

The vehicle show out its goods with a rear axle with the 45-percent locking differential, and the adoption of the e-gear transmission. All completed with a fine adaptation of the ESP stability control system. While the standard program puts a priority on stability, the CORSA program allows larger drift angles and delivers a highly intensive appreciation of the full dynamics of the LP 550-2. All the excellent characteristics of the Gallardo chassis are fully retained – its pleasing bodyroll comfort, as well as its excellent directional stability at high speed.

Outstanding performance is guaranteed

The heart of the Gallardo – the 5.2-liter ten-cylinder – was also retuned and its characteristics optimized for rear-wheel drive, delivering that perfect and breathtaking synthesis of high-revving pleasure, pulling power, exuberant temperament and powerful melody in all keys. In the LP 550-2 Spyder, the compact and lightweight power unit delivers 405 kW (550 hp). Thanks to systematic Lamborghini lightweight design and an extremely low dry weight of just 1,520 kilograms, phenomenal performance is guaranteed – the LP 550-2 catapults itself from zero to 100 km/h in just 4,2 seconds. And its top speed of 319km/h guarantees it a place among the ultimate super sports cars. The soft-top of the Gallardo Spyder is designed for unlimited top-speed enjoyment both open and closed.

Careful individualization of the lineup

With the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder, Lamborghini is expanding its most successful model line of all time (to-date a total of nearly 11.800 have been built in Sant'Agata Bolognese) with a stunning variant that continues the successful individualization of its lineup. This includes the LP 560-4 Spyder, as well as the ultra-high-performance Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, which boasts an even further weight reduction through carbon-fiber lightweight engineering. The latest version among the coupe variants is the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale – the road-going version of the race car featured in the world's fastest single-brand racing series.
